Installing Spotify on Fedora

This page discusses third-party software sources not officially affiliated with or endorsed by the Fedora Project. Use them at your own discretion. Fedora recommends the use of free and open source software and avoidance of software encumbered by patents.

Spotify is a cross-platform proprietary music streaming service. Spotify is a freemium service, with advertisements which can be removed by purchasing a subscription. Although Spotify is not officially supported on Fedora, it can be installed on Fedora in a number of ways:

  1. Using unofficial repositories RPM Fusion repositories.

  2. Using a Flatpak hosted by Flathub.

  3. Using the officially-supported Snap.

Using the RPM Fusion repository

  1. Enable the RPMFusion repositories.

  2. Install the lpf-spotify-client package:

    $ sudo dnf install lpf-spotify-client

  3. Install Spotify:

    1. Click the "lpf-spotify-client" icon in the application list.

    2. or use the following command in a terminal:

      $ lpf update

Installing Spotify using Flatpak

To install Spotify using Flatpak:

  1. Install Flatpak using dnf:

    # dnf install -y flatpak

  2. Install Spotify:

    1. Using Gnome Software:

      1. Head to the Spotify page on Flathub.

      2. Click "install", and choose to open the file using Gnome Software.

      3. Click "install" in Gnome Software.

      4. Click "launch" to run Spotify once installed.

    2. Using the command line:

      # flatpak install flathub com.spotify.Client

  3. Run Spotify:

    1. Click on the Spotify icon in the applications list,

    2. or use the following command in the terminal:

      $ flatpak run com.spotify.Client

Snap

Snap is the officially recommended distribution method for Spotify. To install Spotify using Snap:

  1. Install Snap

    $ sudo dnf install snapd
$ sudo ln -s /var/lib/snapd/snap /snap

  2. Install Spotify using Snap:

$ snap install spotify
