Staff
Discourse permits two levels of staff---Admins and Moderators. These are listed on Discourse here.
The Administrators are able to modify any thing on the instance and therefore, this group should be kept as small as possible. For organisational purposes, this group is tracked by the ask-fedora FAS group.
Moderators are members that have special permissions on Discourse, but cannot modify the settings of the instance. These are not currently tracked separately.
Adding new staff
Since Discourse provides its own gamification system that rewards active users with new permissions, we generally do not need to add moderators manually. During the initial set up, however, we added one or two moderators for each language to support users. These moderators are community volunteers who assisted with the translation of various text to their languages.
If needed, an administrator can visit the user’s profile on Ask Fedora and upgrade them to moderator. If needed, an administrator can visit the user’s profile on Ask Fedora and upgrade them to administrator also. However, since administrators have a lot more power, Discourse sends an e-mail to confirm the upgrade.
